Lightweight ecommerce

Online shops and ecommerce

Shopify works, but you commit to monthly payments forever and inherit a bloated theme that’s slow out of the box. For a focused range of products, there’s a leaner way: the shop is built into your own site, with payments run through Stripe. It’s light, it’s fast, and there’s no monthly fees.

FAQ

Common questions

How many products can this handle?

It suits a range of roughly five to fifty products very well. Past a couple of hundred, or if you need live stock counts shared between a shop, a market stall and a website, a proper platform starts earning its fee, and I would tell you that rather than take the work.

Is taking card payments on my own site safe?

Your site never touches a card number. The payment itself happens on Stripe’s own checkout, which is the same infrastructure a great many large retailers run on, and it handles the extra bank security checks that UK cards require.

What does it cost to run?

Stripe take 1.5% and 20p per UK card payment, charged by them, not me. If your shop needs the full cart and order dashboard there is a small monthly fee for that tool. Either way you will know the numbers before you commit to anything.

Why not just use Shopify?

If you have hundreds of products, staff processing orders, or you sell in several places at once, use Shopify. This is for the business with a focused range who would rather not pay a platform every month for features they are never going to open.
